San Diego's MOWER Team Up With Former SNOT/SOULFLY Guitarist On New CD
February 9, 2006California's MOWER have wrapped up the recording of their new record, "Not For You", with producer Mike Doling (ex-SNOT, SOULFLY) in Los Angeles. The CD will be available in stores April 4, 2006 on Suburban Noize Records.
MOWER vocalist Brian Sheerin recently commented on the band's experiences working with the ex-SNOT/SOULFLY guitarist in a producer capacity: "Most bands are happy enough to meet one of their favorite bands once, so it was awesome for MOWER to share the stage with Mikey and SOULFLY, and then go on to record a CD with him. This is a true highlight in our band's career."
From the minute Doling signed on to produce "Not For You", MOWER's second full-length release on Suburban Noize Records, every day brought unforgettable experiences with it. If the fact that he had befriended them and liked their music wasn't enough, MOWER's time with Doling allowed them to encounter heroes from incredible bands at every turn. Whether it was Rex Brown from PANTERA stopping by the studio to provide input on getting the best bass tones or Roy Mayorga from SOULFLY making adjustments to drummer Ryan Toth's kit, it was all mind-blowing for the San Diego outfit.
"We would all go out partying in Los Angeles and wind up running into Lajon from SEVENDUST on Sunset and have the chance to thank him for watching our set at the '99 Warped Tour in Del Mar or see Lemmy from MOTÖRHEAD at The Rainbow and tell him that '1916' is a sick album, or have a drink with Wayne from STATIC-X at The Troubadour and discuss everything from t-shirts to De Niro films," Sheerin continued. "It was just this great vibe that felt like we were taking a big step with this CD."
It didn't end with the people that surrounded Doling; the whole recording experience was filled with great omens, from MOWER guitarist Matt Wannamaker recording parts with one of Dimebag's wah pedals or laying down tracks with Mikey's customized "SNOT" guitar, to getting a call from legendary THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS producer Lou Adler as they were recording "California Dreaming".
"In addition to his easygoing style and creative input, Mikey let us inside the history of one of our favorite bands (SNOT) with stories you'd never see in a metal magazine," explained Sheerin.
